We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of David Urquhart-Jones, renowned composer, educator and performer. David had a long association with ANZCA, being a former Board Director and Examiner, and of course having many of his works included in our syllabuses and pianoforte grade books.

David was a multi-instrumentalist (including piano, bass, bagpipes and more), as well as an experienced conductor and musical director. David’s compositions reflected the great breadth and depth of his musical interests and knowledge, covering Jazz, Latin, Pop, Rock, Folk, Baroque, Classical and other styles, often in unexpected and humorous combinations within a piece.

In addition to his musical albums, David was the author of text and tutor books, including Improvisation in Concept and Practice.
